Maybe some of you mechanical engineers or engineering students can answer this question for me. Why do some cars that have the engine behind the driver have such long noses? What is the point of such a long front overhang when there is nothing up there?

Why do Ferraris & their offshoots have such long front overhangs?

Ferraris tend to have long front overhangs compared to the other cars in their class. The F430/458 have longer noses than the Gallardo/Huracan. And this Enzo-derived beast of a Maserati has a huge nose.

Is there any performance benefit to having such a long nose, or is it just for looks?
