Cars You Didn't Know About: The Gucci AMC Hornet

Alternate title: Cars You Don't Want. In 1972 AMC rolled out a new version of its Hornet Sportabout (a wagon with a sloping hatch rather than a traditional tailgate) that had an interior styled by Gucci. It was notable for being one of the first American cars to offer a "designer" trim level.

Between '72 and '73 4,835 of the things were produced, but there was also a one-off Sportabout made for Aldo Gucci's personal use. It was powered by a 5 liter V-8 and included such features as a writing desk/lamp that folded out from the dash and a compartment hidden in the back of the driver's seat that opened to reveal a miniature liquor cabinet.
